Innovation Lab

Research, development, and production
of state-of-the-art precious metal alloys and
manufacturing technologies

VISION

Why an "
" Innovation Lab?

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

At the Innovation Lab, we combine traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge materials science. Our goal is to develop new precious metal alloys and manufacturing technologies that go beyond conventional boundaries. In doing so, we focus on performance, aesthetics, and sustainability.

Valoryn – "Super Silver"

This alloy successfully combines the aesthetic versatility of fine gold, fine silver, and fine platinum with high density and good corrosion resistance. The composition places high demands on the alloying process. The complex manufacturing process is a closely guarded secret at Joly Manufaktur. Platinum increases the alloy’s strength and density. Silver and gold slightly reduce the hardness, thereby supporting the material’s balanced formability. Since the precious metals used have different properties, this results in a broad melting range. Thanks to coordinated internal manufacturing processes and a modern machine park, we can safely process the material and form it with precision.

Candinovum – “Superplatinum”

Using this alloy, a material composition typical of platinum was developed that combines high density, exceptional value, and excellent chemical resistance. The alloy also features slightly increased hardness and high-temperature strength. Behind this technical feat lies a strictly confidential process developed by the renowned Joly Laboratories, which makes the combination of these rare metals possible in the first place. The material can be used wherever high stability, low susceptibility to corrosion, and precise mechanical properties are required. Due to its exceptionally good biocompatibility, the alloy is also suitable for medical applications, such as the manufacture of implants. Other typical areas of application include electrical contacts, microelectrodes, and highly stable components.

Osmium – the rare precious metal

We have made it our mission to explore ways to safely and responsibly integrate osmium into precious metal products, including precise microstructural control and surface finishing.

STATE-OF-THE-ART MATERIALS AND MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGIES

's Research Networks & Collaborations

Research thrives on collaboration. Our Innovation Lab works closely with partners from academia, industry, and materials research to translate the latest findings into real-world products.

New Manufacturing Processes

Additive manufacturing is a major driver of the development of new materials—from high-performance polymers to metal alloys and biocompatible materials. These material innovations expand the range of applications for 3D printing in industry, aviation, medicine, and many other fields. However, the performance of additive manufacturing depends not only on the machine but also, crucially, on the material. New materials make it possible to:

  • greater strength and heat resistance
  • more complex geometries
  • lighter components
  • improved functionality (e.g., thermal conductivity, flexibility)

New Materials

The development of new materials determines how additive manufacturing can be used in regulated, safety-critical, or high-stress applications. The combination of material innovation, process optimization, and digitalization will shape the coming years.

Additive Manufacturing as a Key Technology

Additive manufacturing is much more than just 3D printing. It shortens development times and enables the faster implementation of innovative products. In the Innovation Lab, we use this technology to develop new materials, functional prototypes, and high-precision components. In doing so, we combine materials research, digital design, and precision craftsmanship. This results in solutions that are often difficult or impossible to achieve using traditional methods. Whether for toolmaking, stamping technology, or industrial applications, we work together with research and industry partners to develop materials and processes that meet the demands of tomorrow.
